C200 Alarm system

Had my 1999 C200 for a while now, and just noticed that there is an alarm sounder fitted alongside engine just behind n/s front light. Its an AutoSecurity S21. Cant find any references to it or how it works. Is this factory fitted or a third party item. Anyone any knowledge?

Dont know, I have no info on it, its never worked as I was not even aware it was there. Dont have a means of turning it on or off. Would like to know if it requires a key fob, or does it come on automatically when I lock the car.

I had something similar installed on my C220. It was wired directly into the remote central locking so it just set when the car was locked. I guess the easiest way to test it is to lock the car with the drivers window down, wait 60 seconds then wave your hand around inside the car (assuming there is an internal sensor), or else switch on the interior light. If it shreaks, you have your answer. Mine could be programmed but it required me to switch the ignition on and off in response to the flashing LED (do you have one of those?). Too much hassle though so I left it standard.
