Hi,
I have a c200 elegance w reg 202 model (2000) It is an automatic. How do I check the gearbox transmission fluid level?
Also how do I top it up.I notice there is what looks like a filler tube at the rear and on the left hand side of the engine compartment,is that what this is for?
Lastly,I`ve been advised to top it up with slick 50 transmission fluid as this would give more protection.
any advice welcome thanks

The gear box rules have changed since your car was built, the boxes are no longer sealed for life. The changes should now be made at 60k miles along with the filter. You should not use anything else other than the correct MB fluid.

ok.that makes thing a bit more difficult.I appear to have a small leak,in that i am getting an occassional drip from the gearbox.Does this mean that i will have to take it to a merc dealer to get it repaired? What will be involved?Any idea how many hours?
Thanks

That really depends on where the leak is coming from. If its the gasket round the pan then is an £8 for the gasket and about £20 for the oil (Dexron111). If you have (which I doubt) a 5 speed box then the oil costs rocket up to £8 per ltr :-x Whatever you do don't use slick 50 or any other additive in an Mb box.

The are a few mods on some of the covers on these boxes, best to find a good indie who will put it on a ramp and you will then know all.

Just give your location and someone could recomend one.
