Hi, this is the 1st time I have posted here so please bare with me. I have a '97 R Reg C200 Elegance and its not very happy. The ABS light is on as is the ASR light and the cruise control has been knocked out. I understand it can be a couple of reasons for this one of which being the brake switch? Any idea where this is housed? looked in the Haynes manual couldn't see it. I also need to find the OVP relay as it has been mentioned this maybe the problem, I have MB looking at the wheel sensors next week but am hoping its a cheap and cheerful fix, I have a slow puncture in my passenger side rear tyre which I check every other day would that cause a problem too?

Also problems with the front electric windows, they work fine and then suddenly stop working for a couple of days and then all of a sudden they'll start working again for a few days and then stop again, its all very peculiar.

But the best one is this, today the exterior bulb warning light came on, after checking with my friends it seems that my reverse lights aren't working. Both of them, fuse I thought, checked the fuses and in slot 13 which is the one for the reverse lamps a fuse there wasn't! Baring in mind that I have only had this car for a month and have never been inside the fuse box before today. Does this mean I just haven't had reverse lights? And why has the bulb warning light literally only come on today? Why? Why? Why?

Many thanks.

Rich.

abs

brake light swich, drop bottom of dash follow pedal up, swich is on pedal box, pedal will be resting on swich, muti plug off and twist swich 45 % and pull, as said rpm sensor could be at fault, also check you not got water (damp) in muti plug on abs pump, lift sliding locking clip on abs unit pull large plug off, check tiny pins have not gone green due to water ingress, short test will show any rpm sensor fault stright away.....

Also equip yourself with a can of Electrical Contact Cleaner (Halford's etc.), remove all fuses from fusebox and spray all contacts with this, replace fuses.
Do the same with all the relays you can find, remove and spray their contact pins & replace. (It is a good idea to disconnect the battery neg. terminal though before fiddling with the relays).
You may be surprised at the number of faults this might cure!
Good luck, Tom.

the OVP

is about 10cms tall, 3cm x 4cms in plan, silvery, with a plastic cap, and a transparent lid containing a fuse, (probably 15 amp). Costs about £50 at the dealers. It lives in front of the ECU, (left hand-side of the engine bay looking from the front). You take it off by some kind of push down and wiggle action, as I recall. 5 minutes of a job. Worth getting out of the way as it is doomed to fail , if all the horrors I hear are true.

poorly Merc.

Wow many thanks guys for the advice, I shall give it all a go this weekend I think. Just to add insult to injury one of my brake light bulbs has blown which whilst easy to replace is still annoying! I shall let you know how I get on.

Cheers.
