I dropped my transponder and it fell to pieces!!!! (Only have 1 key).

Mercedes C200 Estate 1997 P reg

I unlocked the car and the alarm went off, so I put the key in the ignition, and turned it, the alarm stopped but the car will not start. The red/green lights on the mirror flash.

I have now re-assembled the key and can lock/unlock the car but cannot start it. How do I reset the immobiser?

Have rung a mercedes garage who can get me a new transponder but it will take 8 working days so I am without the car !!!

oops! you're in a bit of bother there..... and I don't think that anyone here can help you too much either.

Did you completely smash the key fob or can you put it back together?

If its does go back together, it may still work. Check it by pressing the button for more than 2 secs and you should see a red light in the sender window.

If you are lucky and this is the case, you need only resynch the key.

BTW, the way those green and red lights flash mean differnet things. If they flash together it means the batteries are low in your key, if they are alternating the engine is still immoblised... and more stuff I can't remember.

Is there any way you could repair the dmamged key....

The Key transponder is back together.

When I press the single button I can see a red led inside the fob, which flashes once brightly.

The fob will unlock the car and the green led flashes.

The fob locks the car, red led flashes.

When I turn on the ignition the red and gren flash alternatively and the car will not start.

The handbook says to resynch to press the fob switch twice quickly and turn the ignition to pos 2, when I press the fob twice it unlocks/locks the car or locks/unlocks and then putting the key in ignition and turning doesn't seem to do anything. confused and destined to walk and get plenty of earache from the wife.

i think you will find that when your key was dropped the transponder chip which is secured at the top of the key will have come out.
if you were not aware of the chip you would have rebuilt the remote without it and now its probably lost ,sorry about the bad news but a new key is the only option.

Tried again this morning hoping the rest would have changed it to no avail, my last car was a peugeot 406 and if you locked the immobiliser by entering the wrong pin 3 times it would lock you out for 30 minutes and would get longer each time you failed. Peugeo=t said to a max of 24 hrs.

Have tried disconnecting the battery but it made no difference, now waiting for Mercedes to ring me back.

The garage rang...try

unlocking car, getting in, lock & unlock, put key in ignition at position 2 without trying to start for 10 to 30 seconds then key out, lock and unlock car and it's NOT reset,, Has anyone any other ideas??? getting desperate

Single button flick out key seems OK, the immobiliser is not resetting, they have said bring the car in and they can reset it!

So will have to get another breakdown firm to trailer it since it's auto and Mercedes should be able to get it running....on Tues since it's a B/H weekend, at which time I will order a spare key, they say a spare key will not fix the problem.

Thanks Rooster - you were correct

The tiny chip was under the couch in the lounge, by luck it was not vacuumed up. It just sits in the key not connected to anything, I presume these emergency keys don't have it so can't also start the car.

Will be ordering a new key although Mercedes are now quoting £130!!!!!
