C200 Key fob problems

I have a C200 X reg, since yesterday I can not lock or unlock the doors except with the emergency key. Once inside the car, I am unable to turn the key with the key fob. I have tried the spare key fob but with same results. Any ideas?

Yes, the battery is fine. Put a new battery into the fob yesterday. The car battery is fully charged also.

Sounds like a problem with the electronic ignition switch.

Unfotunately these are a common problem, and this question seems to arise every month or two.

The best bet is to get the stealer to have a look at it using the error codes, as reported in an earlier thread. Or maybe call them to discuss...

I think the reason that you will not be able to start the car with the fobs is probably due to the fobs sending incorrect values for codes, and is out of sync.

I would avoid keeping these key fobs in your pockets especially near a mobile phone or anything magnetic, or your wallets.


I have seen a thread which gives the method for (re)programming a new remote fob on a key following a new battery or new key, and this may help to reset your keys.

Will have a dig around to find it.
Also use the Search Forum tools to have a look for other threads here relating to your key fob problems.
