I have a 1998 c200 2.0 auto which has never let me down in four years, until last week !.
It did'nt start first time,it spun over but would not fire up,on a second attempt all was OK. No problems for 7 days then it let me down 30 miles from home, same thing, spun over but would not fire up. I called out the breakdown service and while waiting tried again to start,it started first time so cancelled breakdown truck.
Thought it may be poor contacts in a multi plug connector so after turning off ignition I opened up control box cover and pulled out the connectors on the management control unit and sprayed contact cleaner on contacts before re-assembly. Car now starts but has practically no throttle response at all, start engine, throttle to floor, runs at about 2000 rpm for a few seconds and then slowly falls to a poor tick-over which may stall. I have obvoiusly upset basic settings, any suggestions as to how to get a car that I can drive if only to my local friendly garage ??

Your Mercedes
c238,w120 (diesel)
check your OVP relay, the contacts may be duff, (over voltage relay)

checkout your car battery as well they do tend to fail in spectacular fashion this time of year with the heated rear windows being on much more plus heating.,..

cheers

Have checked the OVR and the battery but i'm afraid it made no difference, car starts, revs up,dies down then stalls, totally un- drivable at the moment.!

I found a friendly Merc mechanic who diagnosed a dead MAF sensor, and lent me a new unit to try, it solved the fault so I managed to find a supplier who was a lot cheaper than Mercedes who quoted £258. !!
The supplier is "The air flow meter company" and quoted only £32 post paid !!
It is a Bosch unit exactly the same as the unit in the Merc; box and is brand new so it does pay to look around.
