C200 Rev Limiter Or Get Home Moded When Cold

Hi all
iam new to the forum ,looking at a c200 1998 petrol auto to purchase every seems ok apart from i was told it has a rev limter when cold will not rev over 3000 rpm ,have not had a test drive will get that this week,will see if it drves ok warm .is the guy talk rubbish or the truth ? has any one else anything that they can think of to look at, that i might have missed?car got only 56000miles on fshmb with full history of mots etc , but quite scabbey around arches is this normal?

There is no limiter on these cars, does he mean 3000 max in neutral or when driving.

Sorry to step on your toes Malcolm,yes this is correct ifthe car is in N it is a saftey feature provided on the car to protect the engine.

The rev limiter stops the engine exceeding 4000rpm when in P or N, it will sound like it is misfiring when you hit the limiter.
And yes the paint can start to fray around the wheel arches, but not all do. Check the monowiper is working properly, it should clear most of the screen and extend into the outer corners, if it doesn't or is noisy or jerky in operation it may be faulty and can be very expensive to fix , up to £800 +.

thanks for all the help now the proud owner of 98 c200 elegance ,whats the best gearoil for the auto box ,ive heard its best to change often.

Its my short answer, I meant that it did not have a limiter when cold.
