C200 Sensor on the Bonnet

I own a 2005 C200 petrol, Elegance with sport package. There is a little round sensor on the air intake grid at the back of the bonnet and I have not yet worked out what it does. It is certainly not a rain sensor that automatically starts the wipers when it rains. My dealer confirmed that I did not go for a rain sensor option, but he could not tell me what the sensor does. The sensor is wired and therefore it is not a decoy. Does anyone know what this sensor is supposed to do?

Hi, The little sensor on the bonnet is a sun sensor and it detects how strong the suns rays are. Its connected to your Air Con Control unit. Hope this helps,

Its just as weel you havent got a rain sensor, it fits on the windshield but this dealer would probaaby tell you its in the boot.

Oh I thought it was the auto headlight sensor, so were is the auto headlight sensor?
