C200 speedo, tacho and dash lights problem

I have a 97 C200 with an intermittent dash problem where the speedo and tacho needles will suddenly drop and some of the dash lights will come on at the same time. This problem lasts for about a second then all is normal. This used to happen once every couple of weeks with no traceable pattern, but today it happened several times and at one stage constantly kept blinking. Please can anyone advise? :?:

sounds like the multiplug at the back may be loose, check the connections.

Thanks for the update. It is very frustrating as some days there will be no problems and other days where it flashes like a Christmas tree. This problem happens even when I'm stationary at traffic lights. I've just spoken to my bother-in-law who has an SL300 24v and he has had a similar problem as well, and he does not know the reason. As I am new to Mercedes ownership, is the multiplug easy to get to? All help appreciated.
