hello, this is my first posting on this great site. Just taken ownership of my fourth Mercedes after a a massive break, in fact the last one I had, I dont think there was a owners club web site in those days ! I used to have a 230te, an old 300se from way back (Matt black !) and a fantastic 1970 280sl (EVG89H....still about ?) but now things are a bit more "functional".
Still I dont know whether anyone can help,

I have a 1996 C200 sport that has a couple of faults,

The first is the old coolant light stuck on, laods of water in expansion tank,no overheating etc. I think this has been discussed a few times on the site
so I will try these solutions first.

The next is that the wiper always stops in the middle of the screen ! The stalk activates the wiper fine, the wiper works fine, but always stops in the middle of the screen ! Any clues ?

Also the throttle seems a bit stiff, I will try lubricating it.

The auto box seems a bit sluggish, would this just require more gearboxoil and if so, where di I put it in? It doesn't seem to liven up even when warm.

Any help would be good, it's great to be back under the three pointed.

If you read page 1 and 2 of this thread… http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=35032 and in particular, see the picture in post number 12, one or both nuts, (1 and 2) have slipped, possibly because the wiper was turned on when it was frozen to the windscreen. You will need to remove the wiper assembly to make the adjustment and make sure you lubricate the mechanism under the “turtleshell” cover.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Regarding your coolant light,if it's the level light that is the problem try cleaning the electric connector as any corrosion will increase the resistance and active the light.
You wiper position may have been changed by a previous owner, this will show you how to alter the park position;http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/windshield_wiper.htm ;note that it is for a LHD but the method is the same.Lubricate the drivehead while you are at it ,there is a guide on how to do it on the forum.
Don't know if your gearbox has a dipstick, look at the driver side rear of the cylinder head and you should see a red cap,if you are lucky there will be a dipstick under it, to top up the gearbox you pour the oil down the dipstick hole using a small funnel or syringe.
The throttle can stiffen up ,lubricating the cable and all linkages should make a difference but if not you may need a new cable.
Good luck and enjoy your car .
