I have a 2002 C200K auto, 12k miles. At low speeds, when taking my foot of the accelerator, I can hear a short lived whirr/soft grate. When accelerating again, the whirr occurs again as the load is taken up. Again it is short-lived, lasting no more than a second. It is a quiet sound and not noticeable when the radio is on. It sounds like a screw-driven shaft moving between two positions.
