The manual of my recently acquired C200K sports coupe refers to an air-conditioned compartment under the central armrest, and though I have a compartment there, it doesn't look much like in the manual - there is definitely no vent lever. Instead, it looks like below - a rubberised box fills almost the whole space. Is this some variation? Was the air-conditioned compartment an option? From the manual it sounds like it's standard with automatic air con, which I have since my car has the SE pack.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this...

i have C240 2001 with climate control. my central arm rest section has a lever on the bottom right side of the compartment, which opens and closes vents on teh compartment front. It should be moveable up and down.
I have no idea what the rubberised box is... very stange!
