As soon as I turn on the ignition, a clicking noise starts. It sounds like a vent opening and closing up under the front passenger's feet. It happens about 8 times over about 1 minute whether I start the engine or not. I can fiddle with all the climate control selectors but it makes no difference whatsoever. I spoke to the local MB Dealer and he said it was a vent actuator problem and the dashboard would have to come out and would be about 10 to 15 hours work to fix it!!! Help!

If it is an actuator, then it is very likely that they will have to take out the dash. Not fun. 10-15 hours sounds excessive for an experienced dealer to do this. I would see if you could somehow confirm the book rate on this. There used to be an excellent tutorial for doing this with lots of pictures. Unfortunately, the site is down.

There are 7 stepper motors. Depending on which one is faulty will tell wether the dash has to come out or not. There is definately one that is accessable behind the radio/heater panel, also I've heard that one to the right of glove box can also be got at, so you may be lucky.
