2010 E220 Coupe (C207)
Hey everybody. i signed up for this great forum a good few years back after getting a '02 W211 E220, and I loved it. My first Mercedes and sewed the seed of what I'm hoping will be a long relationship. Unfortunately, that last car didn't last long, while driving around a roundabout the front right dropped, loud bang. I pulled in only to discover the front right shock has disappeared. There was nothing left, nothing on the road. I'm still convinced to this day there's someone dead in their house with a spring stuck in their forehead.

Anyway, fast forward a few years and I've picked up myself a beautiful silver '10 E220 Coupe (Ireland, bigger engines require even bigger pockets for both insurance and tax). It's perfect for me, and such a pleasure to drive. My first Auto too, and I now know what to get in my daily drivers from here on (I'll stick to manual if I ever get a 'fun' car).

Few months into owning it, and there have been a few small issues. I've asked in other forums I regularly post on (not car related, but has a car section) and while the advice has been great, I'd like to get some from a Mercedes focused audience. Maybe ye can point me towards which sections in the forum to post for a specific issue i'm having, but I have some general questions too.

1: When I turn the key to ignition, I hear a gurgling kind of noise from what sounds like beneath the rear seats. Like it's sending liquid back there, or vice versa. Any idea what that is? Goes away within seconds, but happens every time.

2: Should the rear windows auto roll up? They auto roll down but I've to keep it held to bring them back up. Tried the reset for the front windows on the rear ones, but didn't do anything.

3: Unless the car has been ticking over for 5+ minutes before moving, when I change into R or D, the revs drop and it cuts out. Second attempt usually works, but sometimes requires a third. Happens in Sports or Comfort (the advice I was given is to buy a code reader and test it). Note that there are no errors or warnings coming up.

4: Can someone confirm for me the Co2 emissions for the car? Everything I'm reading is saying between 138-148g/km, and of course the Irish Government have it set between 157-170, so just below twice as much to tax as the 2010 E220 Saloon (€580 vs €380). I contacted the tax office, and they said it's revenue, who basically replied with 'prove it'. I know I can get the COCI from Mercedes in Germany, but it's also €180 iirc, and I'd like confirmation before I go to the expense (they also have the RX7/8 taxed like a 1.8).

4: An article I read is after putting the craps up me, what with this lockdown and restricted movement, but how long of a drive is needed to keep the DPF clean? Would a short but "vigorous" drive be enough, or does it need the 30+ min at motorway speeds?

Thanks all in advance! And sorry for all the questions!

Hello and welcome

You should have a yellow sheet in the handbook that gives all the emissions and type approval for your car

Hi and welcome
1. Might be the fuel pump? The tank is under the rear seats so the pump would be there somewhere.
2. From memory, mine wouldn’t come up on one-touch either but perhaps a current C207 owner can confirm
3 and 4 - can’t help but the yellow type approval folder mentioned would have the formal answer.
5. Don’t worry about it. There’s an awful lot of rubbish written about DPF problems. Yours is Euro 5 and they are not the problem you have with Euro 6 cars. I had mine for 8 years and 67k miles and never had any DPF problems even when it was sometimes only used for short journeys. Merc systems are good and the DPF regeneration will start up when it wants to so no point trying to force it. If you stop the car part way through, it will just resume next time you use it.

Thanks for all the replies!

Unfortunately, the yellow sheet doesn't exist for me. Have the handbook, but the sheet is gone. Spoke to the local Mercedes garage who firstly hadn't a clue what I needed, and then directed me to Mercedes Germany to get a replacement. But seems like it'll be worth it!

Again, thanks for all the replies!
