hello all.

I have been looking at one of these today the engine has been rebuild and then the car was sold because of a loud tappet noise I looked at it. I had the engine turning over with the cam cover off and the HT leads off, There was no oil to the cams, If I ran the engine there is loads on the cam chain but still no too the cams or head. I had a quick look at it the head gasket apears to be correct however the oil filter was squashed up in the housing???

Any idears would be a great help..

the head is the last port of call and if the oil filter is as you say ( now modified ) it will do that, iv taken those old filter out in bits before, new filter then check again, if still no oil press then leave it well alone!!!!!

got new filter today and its a long one when pushed down it opens a valve at the bottom of the filter housing. Not sure if this is correct it looks to be letting unfiltered oil out the bottom of the housing....

I think I will try running it without any oil filter in it for a short time to see what happens

well your not going to belive this....

I was not happy with the amount of oil entering the oil filter housing so I decided to look at the oil pump its not possible to get the sump of in situ' so I took the front of cam chain cover off drained the oil and found a rag in the sump blocking the oil pick up!!!!

also ths can timming is not the same as autodata says.. Autodata say at 20 degs after tdc the cams lock but on this one its only about 5 degs after.... not sure about this

Undo the engine mounts and you can lift it to get the sump off
