Hi

Wonder if anyone could offer any advice. My friend has a 51 plate C220 Auto Diesel Estate. He left the ignition key in the car for a few days and now can not remove the key. The car drives fine and can get the car out of park without an issue. Someone told him it's a security feature that if you leave the key in the ignition for a long time it locks it in place?

Is this true?

Does anyone know how to remove the key?

Cant find anything on this subject. Normally the car must be in park, and the foot not on the footbrake. Make sur the steering lock is not engaged by rocking the steering wheel. If it still will not come out, the cable from the gear selector will need adjustment. Will he try himself or have it done. the center lower dash will have to be removed.

Only thing I've seen is that leaving the key in the ignition can re-sync the alarm codes on a non functioning key.
I would second Malcolm's advice and ensure that it is in Park and that the steering lock is not stopping it coming out.
