I am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading all the advice.:)

I have been having some issues with my car for a while, it seems to be the gearbox that has the issue, and became worst as the weather got colder. The car is on a 55 plate and done 97,000 miles regularly serviced with Mercedes to maintain warranty and since warranty run out now use Motortech in Coventry, as I cannot afford Mercedes prices, I feel like I am being ripped off every time I visit them, it’s a shame I love the car to bits if only Mercedes dealers looked after their regular customers, I am not blessed to have a company pay for my services.

Anyway back to the issues are when driving it seems to be hesitant in changing gear or it holds the gear too long and when changing it is not as smooth as it used to be, it has a few times actually got stuck in one gear then I had to switch the engine off and restart and it was fine, it has what seems like it’s gone into neutral and after a while or just rolling try again and then sorts itself out, all of this is done in C mode not sport.

Since then I decided to take it to my dealer Mototech car service in Coventry as I am disgusted by the Mercedes dealer’s prices. good bunch of guys they ran some diagnostics for me and found some faults I have no idea what they mean nor do they as not auto specialists they said if I can find out what the codes mean they can determine if they can fix it or suggest the next step, they did say may have to send it to an auto specialist

The faults are
DTC P2500 - Transmission impermissible transmission Ratio
P220A - The speed comparison of Y3/6N2 to Y3/6N3 is implausible

Since then they have reset the settings to factory seems ok, but gearbox still seems tight in changing so I suspect the issues are still there.
Any suggestions would be welcomed, I live in Coventry near to the Ricoh, I also work in Milton Keynes, and can anyone suggest a good dealer that focuses on Mercedes, who won’t rip me off for servicing etc?

Thanks for your help, most appreciated.:)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The speed sensor plate cost £135 and fairly straight forward to replace, it is a well known fault, and will cause the box into the limp home mode. Though changing the fluid is recommended at 40-50k miles, the fact is that these codes do exist
I would have a word with Jay, at

http://www.mercland.com/

And tell him that I recommended him, his guys have changed these parts many times before

Its only a sump off and fit the new part job.

Though you part has only gone wrong in a small way, it could get worse, when the car is changing gear, the signal from the speed sensor plate could be distorted, thus causing the delay and hard changes

back from mercland, good bunch of guys, they checked the diagnotics and he was very un sure it was the sensor, they were coinvinced it was low oil, so they cheked with their deep gauge and hence the oil level was low, topped it up, re-run the tests hey presto all sorted.

top guys will use them for my servicing in future. thanks for thier details

C220 Avantgarde 55 Reg Diesel with Sport Pack
C220 Cdi 55 Plate auto transmission

Hi, this is my first post so please forgive me if this has been dealt with already...
My 55 Reg 220 Cdi has recently (over the past 8 weeks) had 3 incidents of 'holding a gear' longer than it should usually on take off from a traffic light when driving sedately in Auto 'C' mode.
Last incident was yesterday; slowed down for 2 mini-roundabouts and while accelerating away (in traffic) became aware of revs rising and gear not changing. Due to peak hour traffic & nowhere to pull over, I ended up driving c.1.5 miles at c.20mph.
This morning it was fine, but it's spooked me into investigating what's up and to see if anyyone has a recommended DIY solution or a cost conscious dealer in the Haywards Heath vicinity?
Sincerely
Neil

Firstly get the fault codes read. It does sound like you have the faulty speed sensors. Not really a DIY job TBH.
