hi my car recently started leaking coolant well thats what i thought because i could see it leaking from a hose/pipe connected to the rad, if looking down on the rads its on the left hand side of the rad so i just toped up the coolant but thought it strange when it took hardly any coolant maybe quarter of a small bottle think it was a litre bottle anyway next thing the gearbox starts playing up reving high just to get off the lights and at 30 it felt like the clutch had gone so i drove it to the garage not mbd but at the traffic lights just before the garage it wouldnt go any where just reving after 3 or red lights and a few beeps from the people behind me it decides to go again for about 2/300 metres and had to push it in the garage and they said they could smell gearbox oil. that was sat they phone me today and said to me the leak is fixed but the gearbox is playing up slipping and not staying in correct gear the garage said i need a new one or a rebuild and i so hope his wrong as i cant afford it at the moment
im going down there in the morning has anyone got any ideas on what it could be and where to get a refurb done on the gearbox if needed and how much could it cost best and worst ways

its a 05 c220 cdi auto
im in dartford

Nothing wrong with that price for a re build

spoke to the garage today not mr transmission and listened to them this time because last time round all i could here was its gonna cost 1000+ the rad did not break internally so the oil and coolant didnt mix so i dont know how it leaked unless on the last service in december they emptied it and didnt replace the gearbox oil but i have done maybe 200 miles in the last month in one journey . how long will it drive for without oil in it

I am a little lost on your fault, its a late car and this has not been asked before.

Reading the post again I see that the fluid level has not been checked,,in the morning just ask any MB dealer to check the level for you, the answer could be this

here is a happy ending after getting the tow truck driver friend to do it he checked the oil and it was empty after the garage said they had filled it up so anyway the gearbox man reset the fault in the gearbox refilled the oil and it drives perfect. the gearbox man reckons the garage either where trying it on with me or simply lacked the knowledge but its back working perfect and it cost £380 in the end not the £1000 i first thought.
so thanks for the help

I would be going back to the original garage and handing them the bill for £380 and tell em to pay up or else !!
