Hi all club members, recently i posted a thread about the car not starting, the car is starting but more problems have come up, the car has not been started for a few months, and the previous owner did not look after it as when i bought it said on the display service b exceeded 27500 miles

The problem is that when the car is started and running, it is making banging noises and giving of loads of white smoke / fumes, and also while driving the car it lacks power, after a diagnostics check i know that it lacks power because of the AIR FLOW METER, and also know that 4 GLOW PLUGS NEED REPLACING, but nothing came up for the white smoke and banging, but i think it may be the fuel injectors, any suggestions please

banging were is it comming from in engine bay ie; put your hand on the rocker cover and see is it the tappets or the worst thing is the bottom end which means the oil was not changed to often or let run low and damaged the shells on the big end .

pls service the car use right oil fill to the right level ie ;the manual will give he right amount to put in .get new glow plugs
air filter fuel filter and oil filter

also check for any loose items exhaust or guards

i hope this helps ps;white smoke is unburnt deisel which may mean your tappets need to be adjusted .or your air flow meter is playing up sending wrong signals to engine and telling it to dump more fuel then needed and causing your engine to be sluggish and dumping the excess fuel out the back

good luck

sounds like you have a deeper problem than fuel injectors ,try disconnecting them on at a time to check for difference in engine note then you at least know where to start ,
diagnostics should have picked up faulty fuel injector though .
not sure whether this applies here but general rule with deisel engine is
White = Water
Blue = Oil
Black = Fuel
Glow plugs will not affect power ,
more info on banging ,tapping ,rattle etc might help a bit

It sounds like a possible injector problem. It is so difficult to tell from the video. You need it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing. It is no good just guessing. It needs to go on a decent diagnosic machine first.

hi mate,
to answer your question you asked me on the other thread,
injector seals are on the injector tips in the head, copper washer about the size of a penny, they blow by giving you a popping noise and leaking fumes and in time cause (black death) as we know it, you need to replace the bolts as well and make sure the head is perfectly clean where the seal sits before replacing the injector/new seal, hope this helps!

you say the car was a recovered car

did any one put petrol in not knowing she was a diesel she sound like this may have happened which means cleaning the hole system and hoping that no lasting damage is done to the engine as petrol works at a higher temp then diesel

i could be wrong but empty the tank clean it and keep cleaning every thing fuel lines new fuel filter and so on

Hey Everyone

I took the car to a motor engineer today, he told me that 1 fuel injectors has completely gone, which is causing the smoke, as it is unused diesel, he has recommended me to get all 4 installed and to replace the particle filter/exchange and something in the catalyc converter as they might have been damaged, the prices i got were

270 for each fuel injector or 980 for 4 with fitting
about 500 for the particle exchange + fitting
about 350 for the catalyc converter part + fitting

and says that any problems in the engine itself such as the cyclinders will show up after the injector has been placed

can you please let me know if the faults are according with the problems occuring, as someone on the forum told me that white smoke was for water, and i thought it might be some thing to do with water, and weither the faults are a reasonable price

dont know where his injectors are coming from, last time i bought a gen merc one was 180+vat, only about 6 months ago! other two sound almost two cheap, mercs dont like patten parts,

the thing i would be worried about is that fault code of po357, your engine ecu would not show that code as thats from a petrol engine, not a derv, what machine read the codes???

hi, i have just confirmed with the garage it is 178 + vat and 96 for fitting, and other two are prices for parts only, particle filter (not exchange 'sorry') is about 420 + vat and it is not cat converter but a part that goes some where near the exhaust that costs that much, for now im getting the fuel injector and a full service done to it to see how it performs, he said itl be done by monday, and then he said he will check the cylinders, lets see what happens hopefully (inshallah) it should be ok after that

More Repairs

Hi Everyone, today i went to the mechanic, he has repalced the fuel injector, and has serviced it, the smoke has minimised, but not finished due to the exhuast problem, the main concern is that only some noise has gone away but not all, so he said that he will be taking the engine apart from the bottom, known as the slump, and see why the noise is still there any hints (the video is still on youtube) thanks faisal

i dont know how much but you need to find out what bent the rod in the first place this is the rod that holds the piston and moves it up and down as one end is connected to the crank shaft and the other to the piston you then have sheels which fit in to the connectin rod and wear slowly saving the connectin rod . look the names up on a search and get some picture to help you understand more

this could get expensive make a few phone calls to main dealers and motor factors and engine overhaullers

good luck your getting their soon it will all be done
