Hello, I have recently gone from a E220 CDI ( 2001 ) to a C220 CDI (2003) and although the steering seems ok the suspension seems a little firm on bumpy roads and if i go over any small pot holes the rear end seems to bounce and drift a bit. The tyres are Continental's Premium Contact and are inflated to filler cap guidelines. Any advice would be much appreciated.

What flavour C220? - Avantgarde? Classic? Estate? How many miles covered?

I don't know your milage, but check your rear springs apparently they are a weakness on the 'c' class and may be broken. My wifes 2001 c320 needed 4 new springs @ 68000 miles

It's an elegance saloon with 84,000 on the clock and full mercedes service history.

As craig, check for a broken spring. Possibly worn bushes. I also suffered from rear end drift over bumps but only on fast bends. Had everything checked, no problems. Either it's gone or I have become used to it! :)

Thanks Craig and whitenemisis, i will have it checked over next week. Hopefully it will be just me getting used to a smaller Merc and not something too expensive:)

Will do, It is going in to the mechanic i have used for the past 10yrs or so (can't afford Merc servicing) for oil/filter change and new air and fuel filters on Thusday, so i thought i would ask you very knowledgeable folk first so i could point him in the right direction.

Thanks again...Nige

Good luck, let us know how it goes?

It turned out to be a failed rear n/s shocker, and i managed to get a used (nearly new) one from Dronsfields for £20. Springs were ok and it now rides as it should.

Although i have only been looking around this forum for a short time, i have noticed that some people pick your guys brains and then don't have the decency to let you know the outcome. It must be very frustrating to say the least as it could help others with similar problems.

It's about time i got something for a decent price from Dronsfields....only kidding if any of them watch this forum;)
