Hi guys,
My recently acquired C220CDI has only done 35k miles and is unmistakeably a diesel when started from cold. I accept that, I've had diesels before that were noisy all the time, my RAV4D4D for example.
The 220 is a little noisy cold, but doesn't smoke, and when hot is a lot quieter, which I guess is as it should be.:) But I was wondering about how often tappets should be adjusted, if at all, or are they hydraulic tappets, not seen any mention in the supplied "service" booklet from MB.
My train of thought is...why put up with tappet clatter when it can be adjusted away.....sorry if this has been covered b4, but a lot to learn with the Merc.

Mine is on 178000 and I'm not worried about tappets mate, they're still original :) What oil are you using?

Pretty sure they are hydraulic. In fact, I haven't seen adjustable ones for a long time. Judging by the 1/2 second of clatter on start up, I'd say mine are hydraulic anyway.

Mine has been fed Magnatec all its life too, it seems absolutely fine. Mine burns no oil whatsoever - I really mean it, no oil at all.
