C220 CDI W202 Diesel heater plug warning light wont go out

I apologise if this has appeared somwhere else.
I have a 1999 (old shape) C220 CDI W202 Diesel. The diesel engine heater plug warning light goes out after a few seconds, the engine starts and then it coes back on again. It used to then go out after 30 -60 secs but now it is on all the time. Can anyone throw any light on this(no pun intended!).
None of the relays under the bonnet (hood) seem, to affect it. There is no fuse noted under the bonnet (hood) but I admit I havent looked in the boot (trunk) yet. My car has fuses but no relays AFAIAA in the (trunk) boot. Thanks everyone. This group will save my bacon again..I hope.
