Hey would appreciate some thoughts from some experienced MB members....

My timing chain slipped on my c220 w204..took the engine out removed chain cover , removed tensioner....the tensioner was ****ed...like I could close it with my index finger and thumb there was that little tension on it...
Here's my problem, I'm not putting a secondhand or recon engine in...I'm not messing about with stripping/replacing cylinder head...
I'm gunna get a chain kit and replace chain sprockets guide rails and tensioner and set the timing.
What's te chances of getting away with this? Without there being any damage to valves?
Is there any checks I can do with the valves without having to remove the head?

You would have to be extremely lucky not to have damaged a valve.
If you can get the engine timed up again you can do a compression test.

You could try filling up the head valve ports with diesel or petrol .
It should not leak out into the cylinders if the valves are good. Any rapid leaks indicate a significant bend on a valve. Slow leaks may or may not indicate a bend but do indicate a valve issue which may or may not result in compression figures being below spec.

Are the valves vertically inline with the pistons on these engines?
I know on the old 1.9 XUD Peugeot Citroen engines you could often get away with snapping the cambelt as the pistons would force the valves squarely back up and snap the camshaft. Many times a new timing belt, cam and bearing caps were all that was needed to get the engine running again.
