Hello all.
I have a 97 c220 diesel, with the EPC light on continous,I have three fault codes
B1040,P1705,P1618,
P1618 is an internal fault in the ECU,says I need a new one.
I dont want to put in a new ECU unless I'm sure of it.
Ive been told it will cost £2000...
anybody got any ideas pleeese...

There are many firms out there that will check over and if necessary fix the ECU. MB always try to flog you a new one for £,000 but normal faults are daft things like dry joints or small cheap components. Its rather like throwing out a plasma TV without getting a repair man to look at it first.

Most firms will check it over for nothing.
See http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=electronic_fuel_injection_engine_management_units
and put ECU repair into google.
