Can someone confirm if the "wood look" dash in my 2006 C220 elegance is plastic or actual wood trim, i think i can guess the answer

On mine it seems to be layered veneer (several layers), glued onto a cast metal backing. Quite substantial. Mind you mines 10 years old now.

I recently swapped out the Alu-Linear trim on mine for Black Birds-eye maple. It was definately wood!

Photographed wood is very hard to tell these days, often it is a veneer on a metal backing

I can often tell by the white border on all four sides (or am I being old fashioned)

No metal here Malcolm, one can even see the wood grain on some of the edges, before fitting I might add! :)

I did wonder if it was veneered and I wouldn't swear it's not but it def wood and very solid, a good 5mm thick.

Thats good then, thats right you had a chance to see yours off the car

In the 70's when the car got damp the wood effect stuff would fall off

As you say, the fake stuff doesn't age too well. I did wonder about the wood in my E as it seems to be on a plastic backing, but I believe it's still the proper stuff.
Anyway, I still clean mine with a can of pledge and a duster.
