C220 Non runner

We have had a C220 CDI come in that has been parked up for 6 months plus.
When the ignition key is turned dash lights come on but when turned to the start position nothing happens.
The battery has been trickle charged but it still wont start.
The central locking locks and unlocks, the red LED on the dash goes out as well.
The dashboard display reads 1 Malfunction but our diagnostic machine does not communicate with the car.

Any ideas? are there any common faults?

It was easier for me to think it was a 203 as you had to write it all out

It must be 203 as the 202 doesn't have The 1 malfunction facility in the cluster.

Dafen, what is the text with the one malfuction in the display?

I would go with sam about the faulty starter, Carry out the checks he states in the that brilliant link provided.

Fuse 52 has not blown but it also does not get a feed during cranking. We put a live to the fuse and the car cranked over. Could it be starter relay? if so where will we find the relay.

Its possible that the alarm has locked it out, I will try and look later

Last time i see that then in that case, it was the EIS gone down!!
