Hi, just new to this forum and have been reading past posts re-poor fuel economy. I have a 54 reg c220 cdi evo coupe (with sport pack) purchased 3 months ago and only get 29 mpg in mixed motoring,no long trips but mainly dual carriageway runs under 10 miles.(computer says 30 mpg). After reading old posts still not sure if this fuel consumption should be better,where is particulate filter and can it be got rid of? Could someone please advise me in simple terms? Also 'B' service due soon should I take car to main dealer or independant garage? Can anyone recommend an independant within 20 miles Teesside? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Several things I would like to push out to you.
30mpg isn't that good but I see that you do no long trips - that may be why. Also if you interrogate the display fully (in handbook - see various display screens) it will tell you what the car has done over the whole period since the last reset. So you will see if it was doing more mpg with a previous owner.
Next, strongly advise that you search forum posts for 'Service Contract Plus'. A 54 plate is just at the right stage of its life for this, but you'll have to wait 3 months before you can draw on a B service.
I had a fantastic B service last week, free 57 plate CLK for a courtesy car for the day, brake fluid change, few little bits including a new high level bootlid brake light, free screen wash pack - which I intended to buy anyway - all within the S C Plus scheme! And as always, the car is perfect after the service.
Finally, travel down to MB Hull if you want the same sort of treatment.
