My C class has started making a loud "hissing" noise when I accelerate and now I am experiencing a loss of power at 2000 revs. Can anyone advise what the problem might be?

Lou1,
I have had the same thing happen to mine, in my case it was the intercooler matrix that had split. It could be a leak anywhere from the turbo outlet to the engine inlet (via intercooler). The turbo on a C220 CDI kicks in at about 1800/1900 rpm, and the loss of power is startling, when it does not get into the engine.
If it is the intercooler, the whole front end needs to come off in order to change it (it may be a split air line)
Mine was covered on a warranty, saving me about £350 (at an indy).
You need to get it looked at asap.....

Good Luck
Rob

seen hell of a lot of w203 with same probs you got 9 time out of 10 is main CAT blocked, not dismissing other faults but another thing to get checked, give few mile run lift bonnet and put head near exchaust, if CAT blocked the heat will be unreal...
