Hi

I have a problem AGAIN with my C230k. When I presss the central locking button on the key fob the drivers side locks fine but the passenger side makes a cycling noise and goes through the locking unlocking sequence 2/3 times in quick succesion. It is a matter of chance if it ends up locked or unlocked and sometimes a number of locking attempt have to be made before the lock button is depressed and so locked. This also occurs if you have it programmed to lock the doors when reaching a certain speed. Merc say they think it needs a new lock and two hours of labour at a cost of £250.00. Any self help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

I don't know what the cause is, but
Two things come to mind. That £250 is £200 labour and £50 parts so assuming their diagnosis is correct (and who knows!) a specialist will come in around £150. Factor in VAT and the fact most indies don't bill in fixed 1hr blocks but 1/4 hrs, and you may even come in under £100. Considering that this doesn't affect your Mobilio or service history this is really a no brainer.

Also, a specialist is more likely to fix something if it's just come adrift than a dealer is, so if the diagnosis is incorrect, you're far more likely to find out from the specialist who will probably fix it within the hour and give you a working car back for £50.
