I have a 2001 (WDB203) C230k Evo coupe auto which has in the last 2 months developed a fault whereby the gearbox goes into limp mode and I also cannot engage reverse (will select but no drive) if I turn ignition off a back on again problem has gone.
Car is in for service today and have asked them to check fault codes, they have suggested it is a fault with engine and is a known MB fault!
Anyone have any advice on this please.

I do not think that this is a known fault as in the limp home mode you can still select reverse.

The fault codes for the gearbox can only be read while the fault is present and the engine not turned off.

I would check the connector to the box ECU in the car first.

Thanks Malcolm
When I say it goes into limp mode that is what I assumed, what happens is it seems to pull away in a higher gear and will not change up/down also cannot manually select a gear in manual mode or select W.
This has happened 3 times in last 2 months and each time I could not reverse although it was in reverse but there was no drive, as I said if I turned off car and removed key then restarted it would be fine, There does not seem to be any rhyme nor reason for it except to say on last 2 occassions it was the day after using w mode on gearbox.

My 129 that I had would lock up,maybe 6 times in two years just the same.
mine would possibly do it if I moved the selector to a lower gear, then it would stick, it could be the selector switch on the gear shift, mine was cured by going to park and then back to D, never did solve it,and some members here did not solve theirs either. It is not a fault listed.
