C240 electrical problems

Hi my name is tony, I have just bought a 1998 c240 Auto that is in vgc. but it has a few gremlins. The oil ,brakes, water lights come on some times I stop and restart the engine and all is well again. I also can be driving and there's a clunk in the autogear gearbox where it seems to change gear, while its doing this the rev, and speedo are going up and down. Any ideas please

It has to be a stupid fault, like one of the connectors to the gearbox or ECU's any poor ground cable could cause it.
