C240 No power after kick down

Have a '99 C240 estate automatic. After kick down gearbox changes down but revs do not increase or if they do appear to be limited. Symptom like trying to accelerate hard with the choke out. car drives great all other times and if i accelerate engine revs do build up ok. Last time it happened had to stop and tick over was lumpy, switched off engine and it started ok. No warning/ECU light came on. Engine has done 83000 miles and been regularly serviced.

Someone suggested MAF. Is that the most liklely? any other ideas?

It sounds like it could be a maf, Really, you need to have any fault codes read!! theres many things it could be!

Hello Ian,,try unplugging the MAF and see how it goes, they are much cheaper from Bosch at £147 and easy to fit

Thanks all for advice. Got it fixed today!

Had fault codes read today and new MAF fitted.

Really nice and smooth now all the way up. Suspect it has been faulty since i got the car last July.
