C240 Rear courtesy light problem

Just that really. My rear courtesy light is not illuminating.
Everything looks fine (fuse and bulb). It was working fine and dandy but then last week just gave up the ghost? Does anyone have any quick ideas?

It should come on with the door or from the switch . Does it work with either?

Make up a fly lead and use a known good battery to test the bulb.
As the bulb is cheap to replace, I'd try a new bulb in there.
Are the front lights OK?
Run a DVM to the bulb contacts and see if you have 12v at the terminals.

This may sound daft, and no offence is intended, but you haven't turned off the auto illumination feature have you? I know it's caught me out before.
