Hi all, I’ve been getting a whining sound when giving it full acceleration. The whining sound only becomes noticeable from around 3000rpm to red line and it’s only on full acceleration. I’ve put it in manual and driven it up to hi revs with half throttle and noise doesn’t happen. The noise sometimes goes away after it’s been driven a while. It’s definitely coming from under the hood and im starting to think it’s power steering related however when I turn the steering wheel it’s not making any bad sounds at all. The power steering resorvoir was low and I topped it up with proper mb fluid when cold up to the max cold line on the dipstick and this made the whine disappear for a fortnight and I thought I’d solved it but now the sound is back but not as loud although I think it’s getting worse.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the pump is knackered? I must have a leak somewhere for the fluid to become low but since topping up the levels not noticeably dropped over a few weeks.
just for info, I had gearbox oil change in December 2019 and car is very well serviced. Im pretty certain it’s not the gear box or torque converter and I’ve checked turbo hoses and no splits or blown hoses. Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated
