Anybody got the official fuel consumption data for a mid 1990's C250 diesel please? eg MPG at 56, MPG at 75mph etc I'm curious as I'm thinking of going diesel to get the benefits of vegetable oil.:p

Remember to use oil that's come from cooking something nice, those that have used oil that has cooked fish smell horrible, Hamburger oil does not smell much better :shock:

Advice.

Official fuel figures for a ten year old car, can't really be taken as gospel !as all is a bit worn !
To put it in simple terms, if you don't boot a 250d, it's not bad, if you boot them hard they gobble fuel !

Look out for customs excise if ya wanna run on chip/ veg oil, my advice is dont bother ! dont listen to the idiots that tell you its worth doing !

The figures for the C250Trubodiesel as fitted to the last of the estates (~yr2000);
City/Extra urban 25.2 / 46.3
Combined 35.3
The C220CDI in the same estate;
City/Extra urban 34.5/55.4
Combined 45.6
No wonder they went over to CDI engines

Below are figures for c220D (70kW) 1993-1999.

city cycle 8.5 (l/100km)
90km/h 5.3 (l/100km)
120km/h 6.9 (l/100km)

I think those figures for c250D are marginally higher, since as I remember those are 83kW engines.
My car (c220D, 1996) has done 73k and the fuel consumption is consistent with the above data.

Many thanks for feedback. This is exactly the info I needed from Blobcat and Poseidon. I can now work out how much lolly I'd save running on diesel rather than petrol.

Malcolm - I'd be using veg oil fresh off the shelves.

C250 on svo/biofuel

Hi,

I've just bought a crisp, shiny C250TD for £2.8k:D (full history, 110k) and am looking into running it on SVO or biodiesel. Have you run your 250 on this stuff and how has it worked out? Also what kind of fuel economy are you getting? Any other hints or tips for keeping it running smooth and trouble free?
