I am at my wits end ,suddenly with no warning the thing will not start , I,ve had the glow plugs changed and also the leak off hoses have been renewed, it will churn over no problem and fire up eventually after a couple of minutes. Its been suggested that the glow plug control unit may be at fault.
I have noticed air bubbles in the clear hoses leading to fuel filter , could this be an indication of the problem....?

becoming rapidly bald .

Hi

These pipes can lead you on a real song and dance. You are best to renew them all there are a half a dozen or so. When disturbed they never seem to re seal properly. MB also have some kind of upgrade kit for fixing the problem an in-line valve or little pump (never figured out what it did).

Some people surround the joints in high melying point grease to stop them sucking air.

Good luck

Cheers 230K.
Have been to local dealer in Slough , spoke with service manager who recommended changing "o" rings in fuel pipes surrounding fuel filter also filter housing which can wear around pipe entrance due to vibration. Will also be renewing secondary filter in top of housing and fitting an OE filter total about £45.00, Waiting parts at present.
Will keep you up to speed.

Update 27/09/05
All sorted , appears that "O" rings on clear fuel pipes are at fault have changed and smeared with grease , also changed filter housing as a precaution.
Hope this is of some help to others . :D

O rings won't solve it, you have to replace all the plastic pipes, at the least.

Been there done it ! also put in the non return valve.
