I have a C250 diesel 1997 5 cyl and I am experiencing some very weird electrical problems. The car has been great for the 3 years I have owned it but recently the radio comes on and off on its own, the mirrors are working one day and not the next and the electric windows and the bulb failure ligt on the dash are also playing up. I changed the fuses for new ones and some things worked and others did not. It seems that every other day, one thing is working and then its not...ie the drivers window works one day and not the passengers and then vice versa. Any ideas?? Any help greatly appreciated. Forgive my ignorance but i dont know what type it is without looking ie W202 or whatever. Also the remote alarm will only operate if you are right close to the car as if the batteries are going but they are new.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
For your information your car is a pre-facelift W202, your alarm fob should be a single button type with the flip out key blade. My C230K has the same sort of fob and as they are infra-red operated only they should only operate in close proximity to the car the IR reciever for the car is in the door mirror i believe.
Your electrical problems could be caused by a dodgy comfort control module.
Item No. 5 in the link below,

The bulb failure lighting up, does this only come when the windows are,nt working?, do you have your cars lights on when its illuminated?
As this light coming on is quite a common fault and is normally caused by a recently changed bulb not being of correct wattage, or dirty lamp terminals, or lamp terminals needing to be retensioned.

Bulb failure light does not come on just when the lights are on. I had a problem with it when I got the car but after changing bulbs in pairs it started behaving itself. I also read on this forum that a rear window motor can cause a fault by sending a message to the control unit which is CAN controlled. Is this car too old for Can Bus system?

If your car has the key i described in my post, then its a pre-facelift.
As its a pre facelift your car has,nt got this sort of control in the doors.

The key is a triangular type plastic remote and the key does not flick out. The end of the fob inserts into the ignition switch and turns. Hope this tells you what type it is.

Still having the same problems with this car and its driving me mad. If the battery voltage drops too low on cranking, could this disable some control modules or is this car too old for this type of fault???
