Hi everyone, I am new to the forum so excuse me if this has been covered before. Basically when im starting my P reg C250 TD Merc the red and green lights flash alternativly and the car will not start :( I have looked through the owners book and it just states that it means there is a fault and nothing further.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what this could be??

Cheers
Stephen

interesting, i see the same issue on my c220 from time to time, what i do is i use the key remote to 'close' the car and then 'open' it again, that usually resolves the problem

what do you mean by the 'key fob' ? as in the batteries in the key remote ?

cheers

My C200 does this if I don't switch on the ignition within 30 seconds of unlocking the car (I didn't find this out until I'd 'broken down' at a filling station shortly after buying the car). Someone on here suggested this was down to the ever trusty OVP relay, but I just live with it.

on one of my none merc cars you have 40 seconds from opening the drivers door to getting the key in the ignition otherwise the car is immobilised, i think the idea is that if someone breaks into the car they have 40 secs to "hotwire" before it is no longer possible to start the car. My SL "arms" itself 30 seconds after taking the key out - even if you dont lock it.

its worth changing the batteries in the remote and resynchronising as suggested. its interesting that the manual suggests that it is a fault, i wonder if it was a common problem then?

thanks for all the feedback guys. I have managed to get around the flashing lights now by using the spare key card.(eventaully after having the AA out). My new problem now is that the car stays in 1st year. i guess this is a safety mode, so ive sent the car off to the merc garage this morning for some diagnosis. Im guessing it could be anything :( ?? any ideas chaps??

Cheers
