c250td clunk and shudder

My 98 c250 td estate 130k miles has developed a noticeable clunk, and the car shudders when starting from cold its performance is poor until the engine is warm plus the engine has become noticeably noisier with a growling type noise? Any suggestions please.

change the glow plugs (5) and all the filters is the glow plug light staying on for some time
