I'm having a small problem with my 1997 Mercedes C250TD
I've been running it on rapeseed oil heated through a coolant heat exchanger for the past 2 years without any problems but noticed a slight lack of power when running on veg oil so I decided to remap the ECU with a quality tuning chip from www.raidhp.de (this came with a 2 year guarantee on the chip itself and any damage it may cause to the car)
eBay.co.uk item no: 220099342924
I had the chip installed by a good auto electrician and the car has a lot more power but when I suddenly push the throttle right down to the floor the engine cuts out and the EPC warning light comes on. I oversaw the soldering of the tuning box control cable to the diesel controller and no mistakes were made in the wiring. Unless you use the throttle in a very aggressive manor the car drives really well with plenty of power and the EPC light will go out after a while. It will only come on again if the engine cuts out due to the throttle being suddenly pushed to the floor. Is this to do with the fact the car is running on rapeseed oil? and have you any suggestions how I can stop this from happening in future? The chip was correctly adjusted so that no excessive amounts of smoke were coming from the exhaust after fitting. When it was installed I waited for the engine to reach 80 degrees C then turned up the volume of the chip using the adjusting screw between 2000-3000 rpm while driving until I noticed a puff of smoke from behind the car which was showing a lot more power during this adjustment. I then turned down the volume of the chip slightly in accordance with the setting instructions until no smoke was visible from behind the vehicle. The car is not burning any engine oil and is going really well only for this small problem. Any advice offered regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my Dragon performance chip, they told me when it cuts out and the ecu lamp comes on there is to much fuel pressure, and told me to back the adjustment screw back 3/4 of a turn, it worked for me no probs.

Cant beleave you actuly got hold of raid performance to sell you anything i tried email phone to no avail .

Yes the EPC will light will come on if the fuel rail pressure fluctuates too much, using rapeseed or veg oil is surely gonna upset some of the settings and chipping to make up for lost bhp is adding to the problem, they chipping guys should be able to advise..

Hi there

Just read your post with great interest. Im cant offer you any advice about your problem but i am very interested in the fact that you run the car on veg oil etc. How much does the conversion cost and how much does the oil cost in comparison to diesel. Also once the conversion had beed done, can you still put diesel in or can you only use the oil ?? I have the same motor myself and although i think the fuel economy is excellent for such a big heavy car, its always good to get more to the gallon (credit crunch and all !!)
