Hi Guys,

I currently have a C250TD, but i would like to get a newer one becuase i have a private number plate which cant go on my C250 at the moment. I was wondering if there where any major differences between the C250TD and the C220CDI? Also which one is better? For example, is the the engine in the C220 as good as in the C250? Does it last as long?

Thanks Tim

The CDI has much better performance than the TD all of these engines are first class

good news Malcolm - certainly my 30,000 miles on top of the original 10,000 have suggested that the engine is indeed very good, but I'm hoping to add around 100,000 more

Hi

Just my thoughts, 250 is less complex and early (202) 220 cdi had a few probs with injectors but both if well serviced should give 300-400+.
Cdi will be easier on fuel with quicker throttle response but once the 250 gets angry it would leave it for dead me thinks.
5 cylinder has a lovely note, 220 hasnt.

Hi,
As people mention the economy is better in the 220cdi.
I spoke to someone about the suspension and steering (ex merc engineer) and they said 220's have more aluminium construction which is not as strong as the older 250td.

84,000 miles and only the glow-plugs changed bar usual lubrication services. 38 mpg in mostly fast motorway work. Happy with performance. Comes with newer and nicer auto-box too.
