Hi chaps new to this forum I have spent two days reading this excellent forum I love it and am a fan already. Any way the wife’s c270 on a 51 plate full merc history 100,000 but like new, now fails to start when parked(over night) on a small incline "nose up" but is fine when "nose down" merc changed the vent valve and pipe,(on top of the fuel rail) but it was just the same the next morning. Air is entering some were up front any ideas?. Also one of the kids slammed the rear n/s door with the window open causing the thin white square plastic plate (from the window to the winder mechanism) to brake!. As it was late and the car was unsecured I thought that it was time to get my hands dirty (the extended warranty ran out the week before the two faults!). I went to merc parts and they sold me a mod kit which was a nut and bolt and large rubber washer to bolt straight to the glass all was well but now the window goes up to far in the "auto" shut position and then opens about 40mm.I have had a good look but can not find any adjustment on the motor as it pop riveted together, hope you can help many thanks. Martin

window reset

Re the window closing then opening 40mm, it sounds to me that the motor needs resetting to understand where fully open and fully shut is. To do this, with ignition on power window down, keep held down and hold the button for (i think) 10 secs when reached bottom and then power up, again holding for 10 secs after it has reached the top.

There are better brains than mine onthis forum, but from memory this is what i did when I replaced the battery and had a similar problem.

Re your air leak into the fuel, there are many skilled people on this forum who I am sure will provide the most likely culprit.

bad starting

hi just reading about your bad starting could we have a bit more info does it crank ? there is a few common things but here is an easy check you could do next time it doesnt start if it cranks over get a tin of easy start ask some body to crank it and spray it up the air intake if the car bursts into life it will be an injector just a matter of a simple leak off test to determin witch injector .it has to be done manualy not by the star machine star only gives you the hub values basicly if its over injecting any problems post agin will get it sorted

showing my lack of knowledge here Wgriffiths, but if you spray into the airtake and it fires up are you not by passing a potential airleak in the fuel line system (albeit temporarily) ???

air leaks

air leak on a cdi on the low side before the high presure pump common on the plastic pipes but soon as the diesel is feed to the high presure pump as long as there is no major leaks it will start on the older type diesels 300dt or 250dt it is critical there are no leaks or it will not start

Hi Blink 10.........I have and had both of your problems !.
Car started fine hot or cold until I replaced the fuel filter........It then would not start unless I sprayed easy start into the intake . Replacement of the o-rings ( 6 euro ) sorted that problem 4 off. They were all rock hard.
No problems since. The l/h rear window problem happened recently..........nice spell of really hot weather ..all windows down and this one would not come back up. Took off the door trim and jammed it up with a piece of wood . Could not find and missing or broken parts in the door bottom. Revisited when time available to see what parts I needed to order and found the broken plastic clip. Used a small bolt and washers as a fix which worked well but gave me the problem you describe....I`ll try daeths trick .
And report back.
Rgds.........Dannyboy 201062.

Start with replacing all the O rings on the plastic fuel pipes. If any of the clamps are broken, replace the pipe. Make sure you use a smear of vaseline on the seals to aid refit.

If that doesnt work get an injector leak off test done.

There is no adjustment in the regulator, just make sure the window isnt over tight. The anti trap sounds like its kicking in on the motor. It works on electrical resistance, IE the window might be too tight and it thinks something is jammed so stops and sends the window back down a few inches.
