Hi new to this site so sorry if sounding a bit green :)

My C270 CDI is losing power. Although it accelerates (albeit slowly) it won’t rev above 2500. A friend told me it may be in safe mode. Can anyone shed any light on it? :-(

Maf ?

Hi Andy
I'm in the Cambridge area too! I'm not a technical man, but your problem sounds very much like the MAF problem I've had with my previous C2220 and two Golfs (tdi). Search the forum and I'm sure you'll find some good advice.

Tony.

It needs to be plugged in to a diagnostic machine really but the most likely cause is the air mass sensor. (MAF)

Hi Andy, had exactly same with my 270 Cdi was MAf. Word of warning, but from dealer approx £70. Tried cleaning, no joy, tried one from Ebay same symptoms, finally got one from dealer - perfect.
Good luck.

No way now can we ever recommend Ebay for MAFs, though I believe that Black sells a few now, but they will be good ones

I buy up all the 4 and 6 cylinder petrol Bosch meters I can find on ebay, Bosch only mind, amazing how many people tyr to pass off a dead meter as a working one.
Handy to have if they only cost £20 ++ as it gets people up and running again.

Hi, I have the same problem on my ml 270 which is limited to 3000 rpm. Where is this MAF situated and how can I test to confirm if it is faulty.

Hi there

The orignal poster is currently having hid car looked at by me, with the 270CDi I found the induction pipework from turbo inlet to air flow meter wet with oil and I mean very wet with oil.

I cleaned the air flow meter and all pipework and that fixed the problem for a couple of days, if you look at the turbo and the rubber pipes above it you might see oil residue around the joints on the pipes, there is also a small plug on a thinner rubber hose, remove that and see if its wet with oil.

You might need to replace some rubber pipes one especially part number A 612 016 11 81 mercedes sold about 270 of these in 07 so if a common failure.

the MAF or air flow meter is on the fron section on the air filter box, it has two torx screws holding it in place, it needs to be spray cleaned only and not cleaned by pocking things in it. You might even notice the MAF has some oil on it and this could be the main reason for poor running.

If local to ely cambs you can pop in if its easier.

You can unplug it and see if the car comes back to normal, though it may run a little rough

Thanks a million guys I must have saved about R2000, I bought a new MAF at R1200 and it's back to normal.
After replacing the sensor the engine ran fine but I had to replace the Turbo intake pipe as it was brittle.
