C270 has issues and i need advice

hi all

hoping someone can give me advice me on some issues i have with my mercedes C270 CDI 52plate.

car been running well with no issues, then i parked the car up got back in turned the key and nothing. i turned the key again and it tried to start, but next turn of the key there was nothing.
i used a booster pack on the battery incase there was a problem with the battrey, but it was still the same.
Every time you turn the key it sound like it want to start but doesnt.

mobile machenic had a look and said it was the starter, but the recovery mechenic that came later wasnt convinced it was the start motor.
as when he was loading the car onto the recovery truck he notice that the car would roll back when he put the car into drive,

any advice would be helpfull

Sorry to be that guy but without any codes from a diagnosis machine it could be many things.
Cars from that era onwards are more electronic than mechanical so you need to read the codes or you are just guessing at best.

If the engine isn't running then it will roll back in drive as there's no fluid being pumped round the gearbox and torque converter.

Does sound like it's either a bad starter, starter relay (if it has one) or it's not getting drive authentication to tell the starter to engage.
Don't guess though. Get codes read on a decent Mercedes specific code reader.
