Hi, I am totally new to this so please bear with me. Has ayone else had problems with loss of power due to catalytic converter breakup and subsequent exhaust blockage on the c270cdi engine. My C class estate is just under3 years old and done 40k. It has happened twice within 8 weeks and 1500miles. Any comments/advice/help?? Thanks..

Sounds like bad luck to me. Just be grateful its under warranty! Actually, does the C270 have 2 cats (one for each side) and is it the other one?
Cats shouldn't break up but its far from unheard of.

Thanks. No the C270 is a 5 cylinder in-line engine but it does have two cats. One just after the turbo and one further down in the exhaust. It is the one just after the turbo that has gone and got caught in the back one...thankfully it is still under warranty but worrying that it has gone twice in such a short time

it is rather alarming - I hope mine last a bit longer ! By two sides I meant of the exhaust - its a twin system on my E anyway despite being a 5 pot. Does make a nice off balance burble though.

It was curiosity that killed the cat.

I have heard of this, very rare but can happen. I would be looking at a diagnostic to make sure the engine has not back fired. This is the most common cause of cat failure, (so says a good friend that has done nothing other than parts sales since leaving school a very long time ago)
Hope you have better luck in the future.
