Have any C280 owners experienced failure of your fuel gauge? I had this problem and understand that it isn't unusual. It is now repaired and they also had to replace the entire consol panel, but I haven't been given any information why the failure occured in the first place??? I never heard of this happening on a car before.

Hi

This is a common fault these days due to the addatives in the fuel we use in the UK (since unleaded fuel being the norm), it is usally due to the fuel tank sensor which the fuel contaminates, on some occasions you do get faulty instrument clusters but this is comparitivley rare say twenty to one.

Thank you piestore! I appreciate your knowledge on that one. I have to wonder why Mercedes, with their exceptional engineering skills, can't design a sensor to deal with the additives. Perhaps they vary too much? Oddly I have always used the same gasoline, and its one of the upper end suppliers. Also it raises a concern as to whether it can be a reoccuring problem over time.
