Hi.

I have a 1995 C280.

When I start the car from cold, the car will shift normally from 1st to 2nd, but will only shift into 3rd once the car revs past 3000 rpm. Is this normal....it seems a bit high.

Once the car is warm, the shift into 3rd will happen at much lower revs.

Any ideas or pointers?

Cheers

hello, I don't think that can be correct. Its should certainly go to 3rd and even 4th gear right away. However, I cannot hink what might be wrong.

cold starts

Most automatics are programmed to hold on to the lower gears for longer when cold in order to warm up the cat converter faster.

this is a feature that they had in those boxes. You can have it deprogrammed at the dealer. I hated it on my E220, but never bothered to get it changed.

Thanks for your responses........I had a suspicion that this may be the case.

Looks as if I will just have to learn to live with it.

Many thanks
