Hi everyone,

I have a 2008, W204, C320 CDI Sport with the 3.0l V6, OM642.960 engine.

I have recently had the turbo replaced with a recon unit by the second hand car dealer under warranty. This was due to damaged turbo vanes due to a very small piece of rubber coming loose on the piping connecting to the turbo.

Since having the car back, whenever I try and accelerate, the car will boost very hard for a second, then start jerking back and fourth, before finally going into limp mode where power is very restricted and the kick down function will not work.

I have heard this could be a faulty turbo actuator. The actuator 'G number' on the car at the moment is G-88 and the turbo is a Garrett 770895-8 (that's the code on the turbo)
I am concerned they have taken a short cut with the turbo replacement and perhaps put the wrong model in?

There are no codes showing on STAR weirdly, the indie Mercedes specialist tech was insinuating the engine had been mapped previously (that was his explanation for the way the car was driving) and didn't seem particularly interested in trying to fact find when I had them inspect it.

I have since ordered a new actuator from eBay (G-88) and a back pressure sensor, probably in vain, but I am desperate at this point as the car is un-drivable nearly.

Other than this issue, the car seems fine, there are no strange noises or knocking coming from the engine and it starts straight away.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

EDIT: Before the new turbo was put in, I wasn't having this issue, just a whining sound coming from the turbo, which is when the damage to the vanes was discovered and subsequently replaced with the recon unit.

Why don’t you get the dealer to fix the car properly under warranty ?

I've tried, they've had the car for over 4 weeks, I've only just got it back. I know it's better cost wise to go under warranty, but I'm pretty frustrated and would just like the issue sorted at this point. Even if it means paying for it. Got it booked in with another indie (MD Motorcare in Ellesmere Port), will report back.

There could potentially be some big costs depending on what the fault is . Might be worth rejecting the car (depends what the indie says obviously )

Good shout Wighty.

You have 6 months under which, if a fault occurs it’s trade sellers responsibility to fix or, prove otherwise that the fault was not there at the point of purchase.

You can give them the option to repair or refund, but, the longer it goes on, you’ll be pushed to give them a chance to repair. If the car has been repaired and this is the outcome, I’d reject the car for a full refund. This way you can go car shopping again. There are so many cars out there that you can be fussy, and no offence better choice of cars too.
