Hi all. Ive seen some old posts on this topic but nothing recent. yesterday my boot was fine. todaysit wont open, using remote or driver door button or manually. seems completely dead. Any ideas please folks? and meantime can it be manually relased from within the car? I would look in the manual but locked in my boot!!!

I just looked online to see if it could be a fuse and in a piece of absolute Mercedes genius, the fuse that controls the boot opening device is....IN THE BOOT. Genius. I knew I should have bought Japanese

Normally a slot under the boot lid close to the handle - use the metal emergency key that pops out of your key fob - if you've never used the metal key before there's a likelihood that the lock will be jammed - keep working the key back and forth with lubricant and it should open.

no where to use the emergency key on my ML W166 either .... which is the problem that ajls has just had due to a flat battery
My Smart is the same - has a slot in pax door but nothing for the boot and the boot is electric...

The fix (for a smart) is to drill 2 x 6mm holes in the plastic inner boot lid and use a screwdriver to move the belden cables to release the latches... You then fill the holes with the top off a Bic Black ballpoint pen.

I never gave the Smart 451 a thought .... the Roadster coupe has a little bowden cable to release the rear hatch/door tucked into the carpet

Does it have the below key? That has the metal key in the top

Hi. yes it has that key but the c350e has NO KEYHOLE in the boot area at all. We have lowered the rear seats to access the boot from inside the car, but still cant find a way to open the boot

UPDATE
Gave up in the end and decided to try to fix from the inside of the boot. with rear seats down, and the technician lying on his back inside the closed boot, he managed to get to the wiring harness and found a broken wire. once that was reconnected all is good. But, note to Mercedes, very poor design detail that the lock cannot be released manually in any way. why has the key hole above the rear number plate found in so many c class beeen removed on the c350e?
