C350e hybrid dead

Hi guys we ran to a dead end with my father's c350e hybrid , first issue was that it would swing into petrol mode while driving up and slightest hill , brought it to a mb independent , car stayed there for 4 months and we got no answers literally a dead end hit , we drove the car home and we're ready to take it over into our local mb garage .

Now the car doesn't start , displays recovery icon , and the steering won't turn .
I'm hoping somebody here could help us find out how to even turn there steering so we could drive it out the drive way for recovery to pick up ..

Hello and welcome

There are a few threads on here on hybrids, please have a search. I’d check the 12v car battery first as I expect that will be toast. The high voltage battery is also likely to be knackered unfortunately

Good luck. Just far too complex, and I thought my vdoz might be a. Money pit..... All that electronic shxxe, bad enough 2 miles from dealers, imagine in middle of desert 4,500 k from dealer. The locals will be completely screwed when they lift the bonnet on all this crap from Europe in a few yrs from now

The relative new tech means MB if anyone will have the knowledge of these cars before that trickles down to indy networks. Take it to MB.

Only problem with that is MB will just advise replacement of whatever they think needs it at many x ££££ :(

Eventually like other cars those battery packs will get repaired.

MB haven't covered themselves with glory with their hybrids.

This is a shocking story. Surely, Mercedes Benz should do the decent thing, and step in to help owners of electric & hybrid vehicles get back on the road. I'm really worried about my E300 now. As time progresses the opportunity to part exchange MB electric vehicles will diminish, as the used car trade becomes aware of the poor designs Mercedes has landed us with.

Who on earth would buy an electrical car as a keeper. The batteries have a warranty of I heard 7 years, in which time they would diminish somewhat. Replacements cost the earth.
Car engines last pretty much forever if serviced - its the rest around it that falls apart.

The old mantra still applies ‘if you want electric buy a Toyota/Lexus’ they are the only manufacturer with enough history of EV products to back this up with a worthwhile warranty. Politicians and the fickle media have played a big part in hoodwinking the consumer into EV/Hybrid vehicles which have not been thoroughly developed and tested.

All you can say is once these cars are out of their 3 year warranty period they are a total liability

Think battery tools. That's really wot the lecky car is. And we all know batts life is shxxe and battery costs 3/4 of complete new tool(read car!) just a 100£ batt on a 170 quid tools somewhat more bearable than the lecky car scenario.
I goin no where near em, sticking wid wot I understand. My fist /last lecky motor will be one of those mobility things that hog the pavements n drive us all nuts. Half a chance n I will fit a nice 2 stroke on it and run it on castol r... That shud clear some space

Quite concerning if the steering wouldn’t even move. I don’t think there will be any update as it’s been a while and perhaps the car is sat at MB if they managed to move it.

@ajlsl600 the petrol engine is a good idea as when you decide to take it for run on a country lane you’ll be doing more than walking pace as traffic comes flying around bends behind you, thus much better for safety

OK. So maybe I fit an old yammy ow31 and some fat tackies? Car behind won't be any issue then, it will be a LONG way behind. but some b prob lookin for Rd tax n mot!!!

I don't have Yammys and love the ow31 but I do have a fleet of lovely old BMW K100s and K1100s from 1983 to 1996 and do 20-25k miles a year on them. I buy my batteries at my local garden and golf cart shop for small money. I researched electric cars and discovered a viable demand for batteries exists once they got to 3 years old. 15K a pop. That buys a lot of motorbikes, petrol and Castrol R. Fuel saving? Battery sinking fund is twice the amount you might save on fuel. Heavy battery increases other service costs too.

My oldest one hits 40 years next year and so I can take it any place including London. . . .
